Year 6 at Waverley - For Ages 10-11 Yrs
Year 6 Overview
Academically, the focus of Year 6 is preparing pupils for SATs and secondary school entrance exams. This goes hand in hand with ensuring our pupils are psychologically ready for Secondary School by developing their independence and teaching them with coping strategies for the next stage in their school life. This also includes giving responsibilities to the children such as being Head Boy and Girl, Library Monitors, Hall Monitors for Assembly and House Captains.
Our academic teaching in the classroom is supported by activities outside the classroom that also build the pupils' life skills and confidence. Children study internet safety, take part in Maths Challenges both nationally and locally, have key roles in school productions, and also undertake life skills training such as 'Bikeability' (cycling proficiency skills).
School Trips
At the beginning of the academic year, school trips are based around academic learning. Towards the end of the school year, we take part in a variety of fun days out and a residential trip. Recent year 6 trips have included:
- Legoland, Windsor
- Chessington
- Harry Potter Studios, Leavesden
- The Imperial War Museum, London
- Overnight Residential Trip - Isle of Wight or Ross on Wye (numbers of nights varies depending on location)
