Year 2 at Waverley - For Ages 6-7 Yrs

Year 2 Overview

As the children enter the last year of Pre-Prep, Waverley's Year 2’s focus is developing the individual child, while building independence and responsibility so to be fully equipped and prepared as they enter into Prep.  In Year 2 we plan a lot of creative and cross-curricular activities to support the children’s learning and curiosity. 

We offer a curriculum that is broad and balanced which promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at Waverley Preparatory School.  We aspire for children to be constantly learning, developing into strong, resilient, capable, confident and self-assured children.  We undertake regular teacher assessments of pupils' progress throughout the school year, PIRA and PUMA tests in English and Maths at the end of each school term and at the end of the year SATs tests are taken in Maths, English Grammar and English Comprehension. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which we will develop exciting stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupil knowledge, understanding and skills.

• Turrets, Towers and Tunnels
• Land Ahoy!
• Coastline
• Paddington Bear's Travels
• The Scented Gardener
• Beachcombers
• Wriggle and Crawl
• Significant People and events linked to each of the topics covered

 

School Trips and Visits From Local Professionals

Highlights of Year 2 also include day trips to a variety of destinations. Here are just a few of the places that Year 2 have visited in recent years:

• Winchester Science Museum and Planetarium
• Bird World in Farnham
• Milestones Museum, Basingstoke
• Alice Holt Forestry Commission, Farnham
• The Living Rainforest, Newbury
• Tesco (Farm to Fork)
• Local farms 

We also welcome a variety of visitors including Wokingham Fire Brigade and drama workshops run by Stagecoach. Year 2 pupils perform in the Christmas Concert, the Class Assembly and the Summer Concert - every child in Year 2 has a speaking part in all productions.
