Head's Welcome

'Best in Berkshire': 12 years and counting!

Ranked 33rd in the UK amongst all Prep and Primary schools

Rated 'Excellent' in our School Inspection

Choosing the right school for your son or daughter is one of the most difficult decisions you have to make as a parent.

You want your child to be happy at school, to develop a passion for learning and to be the very best that he or she can be. At Waverley School, we share those desires, your child is always at the heart of all we do.

Your child is unique, so a curriculum personalised to his or her learning need ensures gifted and talented pupils are appreciated and nurtured. We are proud to be the 'Best in Berkshire', being the only Prep School in Berkshire that has consistently featured in the Times Top 100 Prep School rankings for the 12th consecutive year and is ranked 33rd nationally out of over 2,000 Primary and Prep schools - these rankings are based purely on our academic results.

Our ethos at Waverley is to nurture potential, by providing a first-class education in a pastorally rich environment. Our curriculum is broad and rich, and children are encouraged to embrace opportunities to strive for excellence. Our school values are encapsulated in our 'Waverley Way' ('We Are Kind. We Are Honest. We Do Our Best.') which apply to our youngest through to our oldest, pupils and staff alike.

We are a modern school which uses a combination of traditional and modern teaching methods. Small class sizes with an average of 21 pupils, individual attention, and close monitoring of achievement mean that all children succeed. At the same time, we are unique in our area in being the only school with single form entry (one class per year group) which means that we know every child extremely well, their personalities, and their strengths and weaknesses. Our single form entry system also means a school that is not too large (and not too small) where all pupils across the school know each other - they play and socialise happily and confidently with children of all ages from across all our year groups.

Our children leave us at eleven with exceptional examination results, moving on to their choice of secondary school with self-confidence and a sense of their place in the world.  Many of our pupils are awarded scholarships towards Secondary Schools and last year, all our Year 6 pupils were awarded a place at their first choice Secondary School.

We have an open-door policy meaning you can talk to us anytime about any aspect of your child's education

Due to our small school, your child will know every child and teacher in the school. It also means that as staff, we won't just know your child by name - we'll also know what makes him or her tick; we consider what is best for each child as if they are our own.

We have an open-door policy meaning you can talk to us anytime about any aspect of your child's education. As parents, you value education and want to be a part of your child's learning journey.  New parents and pupils alike are warmly welcomed into our Waverley family community. Our children and staff are rightly very proud of our school and we would love to welcome you to experience the warm ethos, family feel and the high academic standards which are the key features of life at Waverley.
