The Great Food Survey
Year Five have been working hard within the school putting together a proposal to improve school dinners at Waverley. Using their fabulous maths knowledge they planned and carried out a survey of every child in the school and collated the results.
Some interesting findings, not least that almost all of the meals are very popular within the school and Reception will eat almost anything! Year Five enjoyed using Excel to present their data in different ways, using some quite complicated formulas, selecting different data sets, and using alternative chart types to present their data in the most effective way.
After drawing conclusions from their data, Year Five wrote a report which has been delivered to Wendy so that she can use it to help with the menu redesign in January.
Well done and thanks Year Five, a very helpful project!
What we interpreted from our graph:-
We found out that the main option is more popular than the veggie option.
In year two, fish fingers and deep pan pizza was the most popular meals. The least popular meal was cauliflower and broccoli cheese.
In week one, the least popular option is vegetable lasagne with only 26 people liking it but there were a few people not here on the days we did the survey. The most popular is sausage roll with 61 people liking it.
Recommendations from Year Five:-
"We think you should not change the menu at all!"
"We think that egg and cheese salad and vegetable lasagne should be replaced with a more popular option as not many people like either option.
In year 4 only one person likes the vegetable lasagne.
In year 1 only 1 people like egg salad."
"Our recommendation is to take Mediterranean pasta bake and vegetable curry off the menu because they are the least popular meals."
