Waverley Preparatory School and Day Nursery

Christmas Letter

Dear Parents,

The Christmas holidays are finally upon us and after a very busy term I think we are all ready for it, particularly after the three amazing Christmas productions and lovely Nursery sing a long we have hosted in the past weeks.

We have enjoyed getting to know new friends and the children who joined us in September are now old hands, even our Reception children know the routines and their way around the place. I know that everyone will continue to display the customary "Waverley warmth" to the new pupils who will be joining us after the Christmas break.

This term also saw the hard work of our Year Six come to fruition with some magnificent results in the Grammar exam. We're all looking forward to hearing the school place allocation in March to find out just how successful they have been. To all of you who are still waiting to it Independent school exams, we continue to wish you all well. Don’t work too hard over Christmas!

We say good bye this term to a member of staff. Mrs Rose joined us last year and has brought a good deal of new ideas and thinking to the school. Pupils in Years Five and Six have very much enjoyed her language lessons, particularly the opportunity to learn some German. However, it is Mrs Rose's expertise in web design which has been at the fore over the last half term. The amazing transformation of the web design and layout was Mrs Rose's doing and it has made a remarkable difference to the clarity of message and presentation of the school.

Our website will have a new addition over the next couple of days with the Waverley Prep School video. It premiered today; to rave reviews I might add! Mrs Melluzzi, one of our parents, organised, directed and oversaw the edit of the video, giving her time freely. We were so pleased with the finished video which reflected the enthusiasm and joy of the children and captured the spirit of Waverley so well. Thank you does not seem enough but I will nevertheless extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs Melluzzi and also Dan Sprat who did the amazing camera work and editing.

An exciting term ahead as work continues on our new facilities for further classroom accommodation and a designated area for our after school club. We are all excited about the impact this will have on the teaching that happens in the school, but I think that it is Miss Rees who is the most looking forward to it and has grand plans for the after school activities which will take place in there. Dedicated homework space, quiet reading area and cookery and games space, all eagerly anticipated!

We also have some super trips and activities coming up and, of course, the Woodley Festival in March. This is always a very enjoyable and rewarding time for our pupils and I look forward to seeing the fruits of their endeavours.

Lastly, I would like to extend my thanks to the WFA committee and the ever present set of volunteers. The Curry night was great fun and the Christmas Productions are greatly enhanced by the opportunity to share a coffee and a mince pie with friends beforehand. The highlight of this term though has to be the magnificent Christmas Fayre which was enjoyed by children and parents alike, without the work of these wonderful parents life at Waverley would certainly be lacking in social opportunities. On behalf of the WFA might I also say that all parents are welcome to both WFA meetings and as organisers and helpers for events, please do consider if you can spare some time help, on a one off or regular basis, willing participants are always very welcome.

All that remains to say is that I wish you all and your family a very merry Christmas and a restful break.

Best wishes

T.Howard
