A & E Nurses Visit Year 6
On Monday, two special Accident and Emergency nurses from the Royal Berkshire hospital, Mrs Stancer and Mrs Simmons, visited Year Six to discuss their current science topic of Micro Organisms.
During the visit they taught the pupils more about viruses and bacteria and the importance of hand washing in keeping illnesses at bay. Mrs Stancer explained how there are six steps all hospital staff must follow when washing their hands, to ensure patients and staff are kept safe. Mrs Simmons brought a special machine in for the children to use, which highlighted any areas of the hands that hadn't been correctly washed. This really made pupils think about the importance of hygiene and more fun was had as they struggled to put on a pair of sterilised gloves without contaminating the sterile area!
Both Mrs Stancer and Mrs Simmons kindly answered the multitude of questions sent their way, highlighting the pupils interest in the talk and in the subject. It was an extremely enjoyable afternoon, many thanks again to both Mrs Stancer and Mrs Simmons, we would love you to come back again next year!
