French

At Waverley children learn French from Nursery through to Year 6. The main emphasis, particularly in the early years, is on oral French with children developing their speaking, memory and listening skills through practical and fun activities including songs, games and role play. The skills of reading and writing are introduced gradually as a natural progression to the children’s  learning.

Lessons are topic based covering a variety of areas arranged in units, for example, Moi, le Marche, Boucle d’Or et les Trois Ours. There are strong cross curricular links. Children are given plenty of opportunity to create and perform, encouraging them to become confident speakers with a desire to learn foreign languages.
